Evaluation of bone mineral density and trabecular bone score for diagnosis of osteoporosis in Iranian diabetic patients

چکیده
Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) increases the risk of bone fractures. Objectives: This study aimed to examine use trabecular score (TBS) and BMD select best diagnostic tool for osteoporosis caused by type diabetes. Patients Methods: One hundred four patients (52 individuals with 52 ones without diabetes) aged at most 50 years were enrolled in a cross-sectional that was conducted dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) images referred Khorshid Al-Zahra hospitals, Isfahan, Iran. Results: Lumbosacral mineral density (BMD) significantly lower diabetic group than control (0.76 versus 0.82, P=0.041). The mean lumbosacral TBS controls (1.24 1.36, P=0.001). Therefore, provided more reliable indicator discriminate between women T2DM. Conclusion: is recommended early diagnosis because its independence from BMD-related parameters. can capture larger portion deterioration T2DM cannot be detected using methods based solely on BMD.

The Correlation between Trabecular Bone Score and Lumbar Spine Bone Mineral Density in Patients with Normal and High Body Mass Index
Background: Trabecular bone score (TBS) measures the underlying quality of bone texture using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) images. The present study aimed to investigate the correlation between lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) and TBS, and subsequently determine whether the association varies with the body mass index (BMI). Methods: Data from 548 patients were collected a...
متن کاملIdentification of rheumatoid arthritis patients with vertebral fractures using bone mineral density and trabecular bone score.
The aim of this study was to test bone mineral density (BMD), trabecular bone score (TBS), and their combination, for detection of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with vertebral fractures (VFs). One hundred eighty-five women aged 56.0 ± 13.5 yr, with RA since 15.5 ± 9.9 yr were studied. Lumbar spine, total hip, and femoral neck BMD were assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). TBS...
متن کاملEvaluation of the potential use of trabecular bone score to complement bone mineral density in the diagnosis of osteoporosis: a preliminary spine BMD-matched, case-control study.
The trabecular bone score (TBS) is a new parameter that is determined from gray-level analysis of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) images. It relies on the mean thickness and volume fraction of trabecular bone microarchitecture. This was a preliminary case-control study to evaluate the potential diagnostic value of TBS as a complement to bone mineral density (BMD), by comparing postmenopa...

BACKGROUND/AIMS Small attention is paid to other types of bone diseases then chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder in dialysis patients. The aim of our study was to assess the occurrence of osteoporosis and bone microarchitecture by trabecular bone score in this population. METHODS 59 patients (67.6 ± 13.1 years, 43 males) treated with hemodiafIltration underwent densitometry (Luna...
متن کاملThe Trabecular Bone Score Predicts Spine Fragility Fractures in Postmenopausal Caucasian Women Without Osteoporosis Independently of Bone Mineral Density
Introduction The trabecular bone score (TBS) is a gray-level textural metric that can be extracted from the two-dimensional lumbar spine dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) image. TBS is related to bone microarchitecture. Several literature data suggest that TBS predicts fracture risk as well as lumbar spine bone mineral density (LS-BMD) measurements in postmenopausal women. Objective A re...
